I use to sit down for 10 minutes every day after dinner, and write down our expenses from morning until night in my Home budget planner.

Begin with tracking your grocery expenses first , then start tracking your eat out ,shopping and then move to tracking all expenses . This way you develop habit of doing every day. Also while begin with budgeting , you need to first fix how much you want to spend for each category ,each month and divide into 4/5 depends on how many weeks that month have. For example, if your grocery budget is $1000 , divide into 5 that his $200 each week , like this fix budget for all categories.

I began with entering only my grocery expenses , later included our dine out expenses, then started with tracking all house hold expenses like Rent, EMI, Gas, electricity, grocery, shopping ,eating out , entertainment, subscriptions & more !

Earlier I was using simple note books to track my expenses, later , I designed my own budget planner sheets /pdf's with clear layout for all expenses.
